Just wanted to shout out a big THANKYOU to all those at ASSI who put together the recent Melbourne covert surveillance workshop, especially Adrian who dedicated 3 days of his busy schedule to deliver a wealth of information in the art of covert surveillance

We learnt a lot about ourselves, the different equipment we may use including its proper operation, static and mobile covert surveillance and about vehicle choice. Those involved in the course soaked up all that Adrian had to offer and it was all put into action on day 3 in the final exercise.

To those thinking of doing the cert III course in anticipation of becoming a private investigator but wonder if you will have what it takes, the course quickly changes your mind and it showed us we were all capable of becoming surveillance investigators.

It has definitely taken away any doubt out I had in my mind. All in all, best course i have ever done.

To all who were involved in the surveillance workshop, I say a SUPERB job was done by all.

Adrian was outstanding with his delivery of the course. Without a doubt the best, most down to earth and relaxed instructor that I have had the pleasure of meeting and learning from. His knowledge and input, in and out of the class situation, has helped me learn so much in such a short time.

To agree with Blades (referring to poster at the ASSI forum) on the other related post. Yes "SOUTHLAND" We had our own little geographical misplacement there, but it was all fun.

I look forward to our next meeting on June 11th for the statement and interview workshop, which I'm sure will be just as rewarding.

I think I speak on behalf of the students there when I sum up the weekend in a word 'Fantastic'.

We spent the first day in the city. Arrived at 9am to meet Adrian for the first time and get a run down on the structure of the weekend. I'll mention here that the location was very professional. Adrian's 'no pressure' teaching style was great! He is a wealth of anecdotes and examples with his years of experience.

Day Two we hit the road and got to see first hand what it was like doing mobile surveillance. This put the learning from the first day into perspective in the real world. We covered a lot of km's and we all learnt a great deal. Lunch in the maze of Southland is never to be mentioned again.

Day Three was awesome. From being stalked by 'Allen', who did such a good job, none of us had any idea. To strolling with Adrian and just getting a clear view of how skulking around was not the way to go. We lost Adrian here and there, but with each 'perceived' mistake, a lesson was learnt. For the final exercise, planning and communication was key in our team success. That's all I'll say so I don't give it away for other students yet to do the course. But notch up Team Melbourne with a 'Final Destination' win!!

A mixture of excitement, stress and continual 100% concentration ensured we were all exhausted by the end of the course.

For anyone that is considering the surveillance course, I can't recommend it enough. It makes you realise and respect what is involved and the people that do it.

I'm looking forward to the next workshop and getting my license finished so I can move into this exciting and challenging profession.

Hi Adrian,

I would like to thank ASSI for putting on a great course. The last few days were extremely enjoyable and packed full of practical content.

We learnt about the real world, and were shown the real world. Thus we came together on the last day and operated in the real world.

The instruction was excellent and the instructor was able to answer any question thrown his way. A great group of people to spend a few days with, just topped the course off.

A big thank you.

Hi Adrian,

I would like to thank you for the most exciting and enjoyable 3 days of my life. As I have had no experience in surveillance just a 'passion' for the industry. I feel that the workshop provided me with the knowledge, answers and direction that I need to begin a new and challenging career. Every aspect of the course was informative, enjoyable, very relaxing and conducted in a very professional manner. Thanks again Adrian for a wonderful and insightful 3 days. "BRAVO"

Dear Adrian,

I am only too happy to provide some feedback.I really didn’t know what to expect and was a little apprehensive, however in retrospect I found the workshop relaxed and informal.

As far as changing the course I would apply the saying “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. I have absolutely no complaints with the way the course was conducted. The course is carried out in a very informal manner which encourages participation from all “students”. Classroom boredom is alleviated by a different environment each day.

By the end of the first day I really felt like I was part of a team which made the next couple of days really enjoyable.

I would absolutely recommend the course to people who have either completed the on-line certificate, those considering the on-line training or even seasoned investigators who could benefit from fresh ideas from the instructor and other participants. I feel so much more confident after completing the workshop even though I have my certificate IV.

I wouldn’t mind in the least if you use any of my comments. Thanks again Adrian for a wonderful three days, its given me a sense of urgency to get my business organised so I can get out there and put what I have learnt into practice.

Terry R - Sydney had this to say:

All of my expectations were met, or should i say exceeded.

The content and course delivery methods were great, and having a mobile classroom for the vehicle surveillance session was really good as you were able to portray different situations that may arise and keep the 'grey matter' working, as you were able to show different situations that could not be seen nor experienced in a classroom situation or by on-line delivery.

The practical situation in any learning outcome has always been more advantageous to me as you take in more and learn better or even other methods in the process and your recall of the experiences are far greater so that you can apply them yourself in any given situation as taught or with modification to suit your own circumstances.

I had no concerns nor complains with the way the the training was conducted, and felt included in every sense of the word as if also there was both pre-surveillance methods being employed, and actual surveillance being undertaken. It also demonstrated where you may come unstuck and be burnt as i had when eyes met during that last hour of our foot surveillance exercise.

I felt that all participants worked together extremely well and the teamwork came together totally on day 3 whilst following the 'target' in a variety of situations.

During day 2 though i felt i was answering too much and not letting others think and have their say, so i quietened off a bit to just sit back and think and let others have more audible input themselves.

I have already recommended the course to others, and have let them know that the three days were much more than was expected as a good variety of situations were portrayed, and the additional knowledge gained by this type of participation and interaction could not have been experienced otherwise, and added to my own experiences in surveillance.

You are free you use any comments made by me, in whole or in part, in promotion of the course as i personally feel it is of great benefit to anybody either undertaking surveillance for the first time or as a refresher to update or contribute skills within the industry.

Jeremy W - Sydney said:

The course covered everything we need to know and the chats on the side covered the leftover information that help put the whole package together

The method of study and practical exercise mean that any confusion with theory and real world environment is non existent.

The fellow trainees all had different backgrounds but were able to share the different experiences and knowledge to make the group work as a team.

I would recommend this course as it gives you a foot in to the world of private investigations, in a small group environment where everyone is is there to learn as well.

I attended the 3 day Covert Surveillance Course seeking to gain the basic skills and knowledge of surveillance that I could further develop through practice, study and experience. The course was very well structured and presented in a manner that was easy to comprehend and retain. Your willingness to convey your expertise was very much appreciated and surpassed my expectations. The theory taught on day 1 is a prerequisite for the following days. Mobile surveillance on day 2 puts the theory to practice. Looking at different scenarios was an excellent learning experience. The location for the foot surveillance exercises was ideal as again a variety of scenarios were catered for. Additionally by day 3 the group has bonded together and able to work as a team. I feel that I was able to retain more when being taught in a practical way. On completion of the course I am starting to develop a surveillance mindset where I am looking and thinking from the point of a surveillance operative which promotes learning. I thought the group got on well together and worked as a team that I felt part of. I was very pleased with all aspects of the course and would not hesitate in recommending it to others.

Lee G - Mudgee, had this to say:

Adrian, just a short thankyou for the three enlightening days of your surveillance workshop. When I enrolled in Certificate IV, I had little idea what to expect or what was involved in the surveillance industry, basically I just had a real interest in becoming a PI. Over the three days of the course I found to be informal however, professionally planned and executed.

Your workshop has given me a whole new perspective to the course/ industry and made me even more enthusiastic to complete it as soon as I can. I feel through actually completing your workshop it will assist me throughout the remainder of the course and strongly recommend anyone interested in a surveillance career, consider this workshop a pre-requisite to the industry.

Lastly, one of the fun elements of your workshop was comments made to students to get them thinking and expect the unexpected.

Love it! and again, thanks for showing me the way and again with a lot of thanks

Adrian, I thought I would provide feedback after the workshop I attended at Surfers Paradise on the Australia Day weekend.

I thought it was excellent. I learnt heaps and I have been involved in the industry- though not at the coalface- for eight years. For me there is nothing worse than sitting in a classroom for days, but I even enjoyed the day in the classroom!!!!

The last day really brought it all together and even though I only knew my fellow participants for three days, I felt we operated as a real team.

I have already recommended the workshop to colleagues. Well done Adrian

Bruce H - Brisbane had this to say:

Adrian, I would just like to take this opportunity to commend you personally on your professionalism and dedication to training. It is something rarely seen these days.

Your workshop was indeed one of the best, most informative I have attended in many years. For someone such as myself, just starting off in the field of investigation, you pitched at just the right level.

To all those who are thinking about doing the workshop, dont think, Do it. Highly recommended and it is a lot of fun. I met some great people who started off as strangers, I now call them friends.

We worked as a team and as such bonded as friends. I leave the workshop in the knowledge that I can take any surveillence job and reach a positive outcome for the client.

Ron C from Brisbane kindly sent us this message:

"I have just spent the best money I could on advancing my career. The course instructors deliver a very professional and indepth training course in a relaxed and friendly environment. Building on the theory learned on day 1, the 'team' head out into the field for the following 2 days, learning invaluable training in real life surveillance scenarios.

You learn skills and gain experience you just wont find in any book or classroom. In addition to the surveillance content, you have direct access to many years of industry knowledge and experience, something I found of immense value.

If your looking to get into the surveillance industry, give yourself an edge on others by doing this course."

Alicia W - Canberra sent us this message:

"I found the course to be wonderful. The whole 3 days was very professional yet informal and relaxed. There isn't a thing I would suggest to change it. I felt the core topics were well covered and our general chit chat between all of us over the 3 days completed everthing.

I would feel very confident now if I had a phone call about a job, that I could do it confidently with extremely good training under my belt. Thanks also to the 4 wonderful guys I was on the course with. I can recommend this course to anyone. Please feel free to use my comments on this site. Thanks again Adrian, it was a wonderful 3 days which I would love to do again sometime."
